2nd Semester Final: • Create a simple still life based off of a projected image, using scratch board as your medium. • The goal is realism in value, texture, and proportion. • Make full use of your page. • Proper scratchboard and shading techniques are expected. • Good craftsmanship is a must.
2nd Semester Final: • You must submit your sketch before you get your board. Remember that your sketch must be accurate with regards to placement, and should include a small sample of how you plan to recreate certain textures.
2nd Semester Final: • This scratchboard will count as 10% of your semester grade. • The assignment is due by the end of your assigned testing period. • And zomg put your name on the back of your work.
Scratchboard Process: • Draw your image on notebook paper • Tape the drawing onto a scratchboard • Trace your drawing, so it leaves an imprint on the scratchboard • Fold back the paper (but do not remove) and begin scratching your image
Maintaining black lines: • You have to scratch out and around your black lines • You scratch off silver and maintain black Rudy Cantu
Scratchboard should be a positive image, not a negative. Whites should be white and blacks should be black. Pencil Drawing Good Scratchboard Bad Scratchboard
Technique: • The best scratchboards mimic old-fashioned wood cuts. • Gray areas are made by hatching, cross hatching, stipple, etc. • Strive for blacks, whites, and grays • The more marks you make = the lighter the value.
