Geese Problem Presentation to Warren City Council by
Geese Bother Neighbors • Loud • Aggressive • Safety hazard near road • Public health concern • Droppings everywhere • Nesting area is too close to public water supply Macon Road Neighborhood Association
Listen! Macon Road Neighborhood Association
Causes • Geese Stay • Cut barrier weeds around pond • Native shrubs cut down • Hunting illegal • People feed Macon Road Neighborhood Association
Possible Solutions • Shoreline barriers • Geese like to have an escape route when threatened • They don’t like to have to constantly fly over barriers • Use fencing, thick shrubs, etc. • Fines for anyone caught feeding geese • Let grass around pond grow longer • Geese don’t like walking through tall grass • They like to eat younger (i.e., shorter) grass Macon Road Neighborhood Association
West Bend River: Alternative Nesting Site • Away from traffic, homes, and the public water supply • Safer for goslings • Sounder Island and Jackman Point have marshy areas perfect for nesting Macon Road Neighborhood Association
Summary • Current situation • Unhealthy for homeowners • Unhealthy for geese • All help would be appreciated • Presented by Macon Road Neighborhood Association Macon Road Neighborhood Association
