Eight Great Gripes of the Gifted • No one explains what being gifted is all about. • School is too easy and too boring. • Parents, teachers, and friends expect us to be perfect all the time. • Friends who understand us are few and far between. • Kids often tease us about being smart. • We feel overwhelmed by the number of things we can do in life. • We feel different and alienated. • We worry about world problems and feel helpless to do anything about them.
You have a right to know about your giftedness. You have a right to learn something new every day. You have a right to be passionate about your talent area without apologies. You have a right to have an identity beyond your talent area. You have a right to feel good about your accomplishments. You have a right to make mistakes. You have a right to seek guidance in the development of your talent. You have a right to have multiple peer groups and a variety of friends. You have a right to choose which of your talent areas you wish to pursue. You have a right to not be gifted at everything. Gifted Students’ Bill of Rights

(Continued) • Analyze the results of your students M.I. surveys to determine their strong areas. Wherever 2 or more of your students showed a strength in an intelligence, an activity at the lower level of Bloom’s and an activity at the higher level should be designed and written in the matrix. Take a look at the sample filled in on the next page.
