  9. We Need an Alignment CCSS ELA Expectations Single Plan A Common Language

  10. Are the key strategies you have selected already aligned to the instructional shifts in the ELA Common Core? If not, how might you revise them? How might you align your SPSA actions, tasks, and expenditures to your strategies to meet the demands of the ELA Common Core Shifts?

  11. What Might I Consider as I Write my Strategies? What activities/actions are being undertaken to support the Common Core State Standards in English? (Professional Development, classroom instruction, etc.) Operational Considerations: (Indirect) • Clerical • Custodial • General Supplies • Costs related to reproducing PD material • Custodial Supplies Instructional Considerations: (Direct) • Teacher Planning Time • Professional Development • Paraprofessionals • Classroom Tiered Interventions • Instructional Materials • Technology • Coach • Intervention Programs

  12. What Might this Sound Like in Your Plan? For Example: • Release time for teachers to plan lessons around Text Complexity, Text-Dependent Questions, and Close Reading. • Hours outside of the regular work day for teachers to attend professional development around the six ELA instructional shifts (text based evidence, writing from sources, academic vocabulary, etc.) • Collaborative time to plan, deliver, reflect, and revise Common Core aligned lessons. • Funding for instructional materials to support the transition to the Common Core, such as but not limited to: the purchase non-fiction, informational texts to support the shift to increased informational reading, reading materials with increasing levels of complex text, professional learning material, etc. • Funding for facilitators or trainers to provide professional development around the six instructional shifts in the Common Core. • Classroom tiered interventions for students.

  13. Points to Ponder • What infrastructures are in place to support the transition to the six shifts in the ELA Common Core? • How will time be allocated to ensure that teachers plan and then reflect on the delivery of their lessons? • What differentiated materials might be necessary as we transition to the Common Core? • What additional supports might be needed?
