Making equipment more user friendly. Enhancing Reality using a low or mid-level fidelity manikins
Why the need for more efficiency? • 3 Large scale nursing skills labs w/ 10 beds & ICU simulation Lab • Del Mar currently has over 500 nursing students. All are in one or more courses requiring a skills lab component. • Over 10-15 labs per week = >150 labs/semester • Every student – every level has to do a final simulation before moving ahead in the program
Utilizing our space better Our bedside cabinet was just not accommodating all the equipment It just seemed cluttered. Solution was easy and cost effective • Glove box holds the “vital sim” box perfectly • Make sure bed positioned in such a way as to not displace when raised up or down.
User Friendly Equipment • Using regular IV tubing roll clamps or the slide clamps • Simple way to speed up connecting and disconnecting fluids from IV arm tubing • This will save many a sheet from getting more red stain during the set up process
Money Saver! Vital- Sim Control Box Remove the battery pack
Here are some fun and easy Reality techniques Colostomy • Using recipe of choice for making stool • Tubing • Piston Syringe
Reality Trick • Using Neck skin • TLC – cut tubing • Secondary tubing • Stitch in place • Can be used on real person or manikin • Use simulated blood in secondary bag
Reality Trick Low Fidelity can also talk like the big boys • Wireless microphone • Regular desktop computer speakers
Reality Trick • Water • Drop of simulated “blood” • Thick-it • Place IV • Place mixture • Cover with transparent dressing
