A successful experience in Special Olympics requires a “special” bond between coaches and parents. Tips Taken from Dr. Alan Goldberg, Competitive Advantage Our Coaching Philosophy
Getting Parents on the Team….Your Role • Support the Coach • Coaches have been trained in specific sport events. They need your support for everyone to win.
Be Your Child’s Best Fan • Support your child unconditionally. Tell them they did great no matter what!
Support all athletes on the team. • Foster teamwork. When someone does better than your child, your child now has an opportunity to improve.
Do not bribe or offer incentives • Your job is to motivate. Bribes will distract your child from proper competition concentration.
Take your concerns directly to the coaches • If you have a problem with the coach or other issues, do not go to other parents to discuss it. Go straight to the coach to have discussions on how to resolve the situation.
Support the program • Get involved. Volunteer. Help out at practices if available or assist with other opportunities that are available.
Display appropriate competition behavior • Be supportive and cheer but always be appropriate
Practice Schedules • Let’s Get Physical Boot Camp • 5 Pre season sessions which encourages athletes to get motivated for Track and Field practices. • Healthy Choices on Thursday Boot Camp sessions where athletes help prepare Healthy snacks for before or after training.
