YES IX Presentation at Sophia University 16 January 2014
The YES Program • The YES (Young Executive Stay) program introduces 10 Belgian and Luxembourg managers to Japanese management and culture. • Initiative of the BLCCJ • Supported by His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium, BeLux Embassies, BeLux Chambers of Commerce • Already 9th edition (several Sophia YES students) • The BeLux managers will come to Japan from 19-26 October to meet with Japanese contacts. • For the market research in Japan and the set up of meetings with interesting contacts in Japan, the BeLux managers will be assisted by Sophia students (1 for every company).
What is asked of you? • Conduct market research for your company, identify potential business partners/importers in Japan and set up meetings with them. • For this you will be supported/supervised by a “business coach”, an established business person (BLCCJ member) who can help and guide you. • As part of the preparation, you will be sent to Belgium/Luxembourg for one week to meet with the participating companies (incl. seminar in Brussels). • -October 19-26: you are requested to accompany your company as much as possible on their meetings. • -At the end you will have to file a report on your YES experience.
What’s in it for you? • Free 1-week trip to Belgium first week of September (exact date tbc): • BLCCJ arranges the flight tickets, insurance and hotel stay • Great opportunity to gain on-hands business experience • An opportunity to start building an international business network • Cultural exchange • Certificate of Completion from BLCCJ (no credits!)
Feedback from YES VIII students: • The YES program enabled me to experience firsthand what conducting business in Japan is like and it was an extremely valuable experience. • First hearing about the YES Program in my Management in Japan class at Sophia, I saw this as a great opportunity for me to better prepare myself for the upcoming job hunting season. Now finished with the program, I feel I have obtained much more than what I had first anticipated. My Belgian company was great, I learned so much about the real business world, I became much more confident about myself, I feel I have grown much as a individual and overall I feel I had got to experience something very special. • I really appreciated the opportunity where I could feel the real business atmosphere. • If an opportunity like this every comes my way again I know not to even double think it. Take what comes your way because you could be missing out on an opportunity of a life time.
