  1. PY5 Objectives and Transition Thoughts

  2. 3.1.1 APC_1 TeraGrid Forum (TGF) Strategic Objective call • Discussion initiated in August • TeraGrid Objectives (updated during discussion) • Enable breakthrough science and engineering • Broaden the user base • Enhance user productivity • Improve Operations • Enable connections to external resources • Transition to XD

  3. TG/XD Transition TG RP/GIG - FastLane award end dates are Feb 28, 2010 except PSC is Sep 30, 2009 except LSU HPCOPS is Sep 30, 2009 extension provided by NSF except Core Services Supplement is Sep 30, 2009 except HPCOPS supplements to RPs nominally only planned through Sep 30, 2009 TG awardees are expected to make funding last until March 31, 20010 all awardees will need to request No Cost Extension XD start date is Apr 1, 2010 assumes NSF maintains timeline for review/award of XD

  4. TG/XD Transition – PY5 Timeline • RP Planning • non-Track 2 Operations target end date Mar 31, 2010 • users may need to transition off systems prior to Mar 31 to allow for shutting down/transitioning hardware • GIG Planning • transition of services to XD Apr 1 thru Jul 31, 2010 • presumably on GIG NCE funds for this? • which services will need to continue? • provide generic plan – specifics won’t be known until XD award is public in late March 2010 • need to “package” everything that will need to be transisioned as best as possible

  5. Planning Flowchart

  6. Items Identified to Package for Transition • Central AIME instance • TGCDB • POPS • Allocations meetings and process • User Portal • Backend infrastructure • Documentation • Knowledgebase content • Web site • Wiki • Ticket system • REPO • Software packages • Security services • CA, MyProxy, Kerberos, etc. • security private wiki and SELS lists • Network infrastructure • DNS domains • TG network hardware? • MDS servers • Monitoring services • INCA servers, speedpage • Email services • email lists • User News service

  7. Items for Discussion as to Whether they Should be Packaged for Transition • SRB services • NSF GIG-funded hardware • NSF RP-funded hardware (non-allocated resources) • Software licenses • WebSphere? • Maintenance agreements • QBETS • GridShib services • Gateway support services • Scheduling services • Metascheduler, SPRUCE services, central co-scheduler • Training content and materials

  8. Other things to worry about… • Science highlights • Archive transition • User transition • Training for transitioned services • Data collections • TGxy, SCxy?? • Communications to user community about process
