  4. China’s Climate Continued The same variety of climates found in India are also found in China. A country as large as China has nearly every type of climate. High mountain ranges to the south cut China off from India and the moisture that might come from the Indian Ocean. Mongolia to the north is semi-arid, and the areas to the east and south are humid and even tropical.

Few people live in these regions, and many of those that do live as nomads or animal herders. Yangtze River: - China’s largest river. - Flows almost 4,000 miles from the northwestern part of the country to the East China Sea. - Passes through 185 towns where almost 400 million people live. - Consist of the Three Gorges Dam
  9. The massive Three Gorges Dam was built along the Yangtze River in central China to provide hydroelectric power to millions of Chinese who have not had electricity. The Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River is one of the largest construction projects ever undertaken by mankind. The Chinese government finally gave its approval to launch the project in 1992, some seventy years after Sun Yat-sen first proposed the idea. It was to be completed in 2009. It will provide China with tremendous power generation and flood control.
  10. Where do most people in China live? Most of China’s one billion people live in the areas of the country that have the milder climates. It is also where one finds the great river valleys and most of China’s fertile farmland. The northeast, along the route of the Yellow River, is China’s most heavily populated region. Beijing is located here.
  11. What type of work do people in China do? While agriculture is common, the northeast region of the country is also China’s industrial center. Farming is the most common occupation of the Chinese who live in the southeastern part of the country. For Chinese workers, rapid industrialization has meant many have left their rural homes and found work in overcrowded cities.

  29. China’s Environmental Issues Flooding is also a major problem in China. Water pollution is a major issue in China due to over population and dumping of waste by factories and plants. 320 million people do not have clean drinking water. The Yangtze is heavily polluted due to industrial dumping . Air pollution is both an indoor and outdoor problem. Indoor pollution is caused by cooking and heating fuels and kills more than a million people a year in Asia. Links between waste dumping and cancer in rural areas has been made.
  30. Chinese Culture Culture: A group of people with similar customs relating to people's religion, language, clothes, technology, foods, sports, markets, housing, entertainment and the many other cultural traits. Today in China the largest ethnic group is the Han Chinese. Chinese or Mandarin is spoken along with many other dialects. Music, art, dance, literature, theatre, fashion and food are well known.
  31. One Stop Chinese Culture China is the location of one of the world’s oldest civilization. The Chinese culture involves many art forms such as literature/fables, customs & traditions, games & festivals, painting, paper works and so much more. Martial arts, feng shui, dragons, food, music and inventions are also major accomplishments of the Chinese! 2009 is the year of the Ox and 2010 is the year of the TIGER! Magnetic, passionate and grand! When the Tiger does anything, it’s noticed! Indecisiveness and stubbornness can mar the sparkle of the Tiger personality. On the one hand generous, on the other hand a little mean, it’s sometimes hard to know where one stands with the Tiger. Flexible, honest and truly entertaining, one has a friend for life with a Tiger.
