How a CD/DVD work The surface of a CD/DVD looks like a spiral hill landscape. It have land and pits. Pits are the recesses and lands the normal surface
How a CD/DVD work A laser read like a spiral the CD/DVD from the inside to outside. the laser is differently reflected by the Lands and pits. These transitions are interpreted as 0 and 1
How a CD/DVD work CD and DVD have the same operational principle. But the DVD has a higher data density than CD, because the laser of the DVD is finer and the track locations is smaller.
Future There are 2 successors of DVDs. The first is the BD (Blue Ray Disc) With a maximum storage capacity of 27 GB or 54 GB (2 layer) It looks like a CD/DVD. The difference to a DVD is that it uses a Blue laser and the track locations smaler. The BD was developed by Matsushita, Pioneer, Philips, Sony, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, Samsung, Dell and HP. The Playstation 3 used the BD at first in Time 2006
Future The second successors of the DVD is the HD-DVD (High Definition DVD) It was called AOD before (Advanced Optical Disc) With a maximum storage capacity of 20 GB or 32 GB (2 layer) The different to BD is a different Data format It looks like a CD/DVD or BD The HD-DVD was develop by Toshiba and NEC Toshiba bring the first HD-DVD-Player out in Autumn 2005
