Structuring and supporting effective teacher teams.
E N D
I believe in individuals banding together for a higher purpose. Some people don’t like organizations. But it is always awesome to me when you can pool a lot of people who have so many talents. That’s when you can really make your program move. ~Hortense Canady
Session GOALs DISCUSS PHILOSOPHICAL AND RESEARCH CENTRAL TO THE TALENT DEVELOPMENT APPROACH TO TEAMING ENGAGE IN EXPERIENCES TO EXPLORE THOUGHTS ABOUT COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO TEAMING SHARE IDEAS AND BEST PRACTICES FOR FORMING AND SUPPORTING TEACHER TEAMS
Team formation Pick up a post-it note at your table Find four other people with a common word or phrase Identify the theme _________________________ Develop a team name Each team member should identify one skill that will compliment the team DO NOT WRITE NORMS YET!
Research • Read the passage at your table. • Spend a moment thinking about the meaning of the passage for you and your work. • As a team, identify a word or phrase that your team believes is critical to understanding teaming.
Three key ideas behind teaming… In Talent Development Schools • Teaching and learning should be the heart of the school. • Distributive leadership is utilized to solve problems and make decisions. • Adults are viewed as learners…the school is the device by which we reach the students.
Norms What is the expected behavior of each team member? Norms are standards or expectations of conduct that guide the behavior of the team members. Norms is a way of saying "this is what we normally expect to see happen, but we do understand that occasionally circumstances may cause you to perform outside the norm". Norms tend to result in conformity
Norms • As a team, develop a prioritized list of four norms. • Write them on your poster. • Be prepared to discuss the process.
