My Community Service. By Andrew Odom. Boys and Girls Club. Last semester I went to the Boys and Girls Club off of Toombs Street and helped them do some cleaning up. I ended up helping by tearing down an old shed so a playground could go there.

  1. My Community Service By Andrew Odom

  2. Boys and Girls Club • Last semester I went to the Boys and Girls Club off of Toombs Street and helped them do some cleaning up. • I ended up helping by tearing down an old shed so a playground could go there. • It ended up being a fun day because I talked to a lot of little kids and it reminded me how much fun being a little kid was.

  3. Operation Christmas Child • Last semester I also took part in a program that allowed me to wrap presents for kids who were less fortunate. • It was a great experience because I knew I made a difference to a little kids life by giving them a few gifts.

  4. Tommy Swann Skeet Tournamament • The Tommy Swann tournament is a fundraiser developed to raise money for the American Heart Association. • It is usually Kappa Alphas biggest fundraiser and it is a fun event. • The tournament is in honor of late a brother Tommy Swann who passed away from a heart attack. • Annually the tournament raises around $15,000.

  5. Why is Service Learning Important? Service Learning has been fun and worthwhile. I have found out that it has given me a better work ethic and has made me appreciate my community more.

  6. Definition of Service Learning • the incorporation of community service within an educational system, esp. as a graduation requirement.

  7. What I learned • The Tommy Swann tournament was a great experience for me and it turned out to be a lot of fun. I ended up shooting in the tournament and I won a couple of things from raffle tickets. It showed me that work could be mixed with play

  8. Benefits of Service Learning • It allows you to help out your community and have a good time. • It lets you help other people and builds teamwork if you do it with other people.

  9. Reflection • In the end, I was glad to take part in the community service because it made me feel good as a person and helped break my laziness. It showed me that giving a little of my time meant a lot to someone else's life and I was glad to help.
