  1. Making Judgments Created by Risa Udell Story from McGraw Hill

  2. Read the Story Lorenzo was sent to the store by his mother. His mother said to hurry so that she could prepare supper on time. Lorenzo knew a shortcut across a nearby empty lot, but he also knew a new building was being constructed there. It was a dangerous place to cross.

  3. Make a Prediction Lorenzo has a decision to make. He can either take the shortcut across the construction sight or he can take the safe way to the grocery store.

  4. Make a T Chart On one side, write the reasons Lorenzo should take the shortcut. On the other side, write the reasons Lorenzo shouldn’t take the shortcut.

  5. Make a Prediction • Which choice do you think Lorenzo will make?

  6. Read the Rest of the Story Lorenzo decided to shop quickly but not to take the shortcut.

  7. What did Lorenzo decide to do? Why do you think Lorenzo made that decision? What have we learned about the kind of boy Lorenzo is?
