  3. FORMAL POWERS • Manage state’s budget • Send GBI and/or GA Highway Patrol into places of danger Executive Powers • Appoint state officials • Make sure civil and criminal laws are enforced

  4. FORMAL POWERS Legislative Powers • Send requests and messages to the legislature • Sign bills into law • Veto bills • Call special sessions of legislature

  5. FORMAL POWERS Judicial Powers • Pardon persons convicted of crimes • Appoint state justice to fill unexpired terms

  6. INFORMAL POWERS 1. Appoint individuals to boards and executive offices (this is their greatest influence) 2. Communicating with the public 3. Acting as head of the political party that elected them 4. Guiding state agencies 5. Meeting with business and industry leaders to expand their business interests in GA

  8. Lt. Governor The Lieutenant Governor assumes the same responsibilities as the Governor in the event that the Governor is temporarily disabled or incapacitated.

  9. Qualifications- (same as Governor.) Must be at least 30 yrs old when taking office; a US citizen for at least 15 years; resident of the state for at least 6 years. • Term of office- 4 years (same as governor) 3) Election- elected by majority vote of the population. (same as governor)

  10. 4) Formal duties: none unless assigned by the Governor or legislature. Only formal role is President of the Senate and he/she presides over sessions of the senate. In the senate: A. He/she can make committee appointments. B. Assigns bills to committees C. Recognizes members of the senate who wish to speak.
