  2. Why Haiti? • Haiti was devastated by a 7.0 earthquake on January 12, 2010 • This earthquake left over 300,000 people injured, over 220,000 dead, and 1.3 million displaced as 97,294 destroyed houses • These displaced and homeless people are susceptible to injury and foot disease

  3. Foot Problems the Homeless Experience • Up to 20% of reported homeless injuries are foot problems • Frost bite, foot ulcers, lacerations and lesions • Causes of foot injuries: • Poor hygiene • No or little medical care • LACK OF APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR

  4. A nationally based organization distributes shoes worldwide Currently distributing shoes in over 125 countries, has distributed over 7 million shoes Currently distributing 1 pair every 9 seconds Organization Collaboration

  5. Planning and Implementation • Applied for a solicitation table permit in the Campus Center • Designed flyers to be distributed around campus (received confirmation to distribute) • Also formed Facebook Group • Chose days April 2ndfor Circle Apartment Drop off and April 9th for Campus Center Drop off

  6. Shoe Drive Day 1: Circles • We received sixteen donated pairs of shoes on the first day alone • Shoes ranged from sandals, sneakers and dress shoes • We expect to receive even more this Friday!!!
