  3. Versions Current release is 9.10 Most current LTS release is 8.04

  4. Why is Ubuntu different? • Based off the idea of being easy to use • Features focus on usability • 6 month release cycle • Newer packages & software • Many derivative works • mint / edubuntu / kubuntu / mythbuntu • Sold on pre-built systems!

  5. Why would you pick Ubuntu? • Easy to install • Easy to customize • Many many software choices • Good driver support with *newish* hardware • Ability to get professional support (+ cost) • Free!

  6. Stand out features • Open office default software • Notifications (similar to growl for OSX) • Synaptic Package manager *** • Thousands of free software choices • Near infinite customizability • Better inherent security Vs. Windows • Ability to install off USB stick / CD / network

  9. I am assuming there is server support? • Yep. • Two levels 9-5 and 24-7 •  £ 473.69 and  £ 1,736.87  / Year • Both levels of support include landscape • Web based systems management

  10. What is landscape? Web based administration that covers software updates and many other administrative functions Monitor all servers with one easy website from anywhere

  12. 5 Computer Network Price Comparison As we can see, for a 5 person network there is a savings of nearly $3,500 in licensing costs associated with running Microsoft products.
