The nature of qualitative research Qualitative research is an attempt to present the social world, and perspectives on that world, in terms of the concepts, behaviours, perceptions and accounts of the people it is about. (Social and Community Planning Research, 1991)

Introduction to MaxQda2 • Time-limited (100 days) evaluation copies of MaxQda2 are available for download on to your home pc • Instruction for downloading are on CMR/Moodle • IMPORTANT: You must agree that you will not make copies for anyone else without obtaining written permission from the developers • The download procedure will not work within the University, because you will not have the necessary administrative rights • There is a good, basic introductory tutorial on the website at http://www.maxqda.com/2_tutorial.htm# - scroll down to where it says '2 - Introductory Tutorial MAXqda & MAXdictio'. • Also refer to the .pdf copy of the Introductory manual. This covers far more than you will need for the class, but it would be worthwhile looking at sections 1 – 5 and 8.
