  2. Never give out personal information on the Internet. • Such as their address, telephone number, the name or location of their school, or their parents' names. • However, once personal information is given, it is important that your children understand that their privacy can be compromised. • Their names could end up on a sales database, or worse, the information could be used to harm or exploit them.

  3. Always inform an adult when they come across anything online that makes them uncomfortable. • If anything happens online that makes the student uncomfortable , the should tell an adult. • Parents and children can alert their Internet provider or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children hot line at 1-800-843-5678.

  4. Avoid chat rooms that discuss sex or cults. • While these topics may seem interesting at first, they could put a child in danger. • The child should never be on any website of this nature in the first place.

  5. Never respond to messages or bulletin boards that are sexually obscene. • Threatening, or make them feel uncomfortable in any way. • If this happens, the student should always tell an adult.

  6. Never send any personal materials online • Such as an address, telephone number, or photograph, without first informing parentsor an adult. • Online predators could gather the information and harm the child.

  7. Always be reminded that the people they meet online may not be who they say they are. • They have to be careful online, the people they talk to may not be the person they think. • This puts online chat rooms harmful when they are not monitored by the teacher or parent.

  8. Do not harass another student • By no means should a student harass another student online. • This is cyber-bullying.
