Who Qualifies for WBL? • Seniors and Juniors • Must be 16 years old • Must be recommended by Shop and academic teachers. • Working papers needed if you are 16 or 17 years old. • Must have good attendance. • Must have C average in every class. • Must have good discipline record. • Some employers require drug testing • Must have means of transportation to work sites. • Employer must have Worker’s Compensation & Liability Insurance
How Can You Participate? • Inform your shop teacher if you already work in your trade. • Meet the required standards discussed earlier. • Your shop teachers and Dean of Students find jobs and recommend students. • Your family and friends give us job referrals. • Chamber of Commerce and local businesses request candidates. • Seniors can work up to 21 hrs/week, juniors 14 hrs/week
Forms • If you have a potential employer willing to hire you: • Meet with Dean of Students to get a WBL packet.
Weekly Reports • Once hired and confirmed in the program, you will submit weekly attendance and performance reports to your teacher and Dean of Students. • You will call the Dean of Students each day you report to work for attendance purposes. • Failure to follow these guidelines may result in program cancellation.
What is Job Shadowing? • Program that allows students to visit work sites to shadow approved mentors in their trades. • Opportunity to meet potential employers and practice interview skills. • Non paid project • It is meant to provide real life experiences. • Students are observers only • Students make their visits in pairs and for no longer than 3 days • Students can work on small hands on projects only (no production work)
Who Qualifies? • Every student qualifies if recommended by shop teachers. • Must keep in mind that if assigned he/she will serve as school ambassador. • Transportation is provided by school.
How Can You Participate? • Your teacher and Dean of Students will identify adequate work sites for this project. • You will bring a form home for parent approval.
