  2. The Dust Bowl • In the 1930’s, the southern Great Plains - Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas – suffered a seven-year drought.

  3. Bad Choices by Farmers • Because of poor farming practices and the loss of good soil, land which had once grown lots of crops became dry and dusty.

  4. Wind blew the dust for miles and darkened the sky for days.

  5. The area became known as… The Dust Bowl

  6. Because they could not grow crops, thousands of farm families fled the area.
