Speak and We Will Hear It Deuteronomy 5:27
God’s Word in Today’s World • Some are overly concerned about feelings and friendships (Gal. 4:16) • Others want numbers rather than truth (Gal. 1:10) • Some are ashamed of God’s word (2 Tim. 1:8) • Others are too spoiled to accept correction
Speakers of the Word • Speak God’s word, not man’s (1 K. 22:14) • Be honest, not deceitful (Jer. 6:14; 9:5) • Warn of judgment, not hide (Ezek. 3:17ff) • Start with scripture, not opinion (Acts 8:35) • Proclaim all, not just the popular (Acts 20:27) • Speak truth with peace and love, not carnal tactics (Zech. 8:16; Eph. 4:25; 2 Tim. 2:24-26) • Preach the word, not entertainment (2 Tim. 4:2)
Hearers of the Word • Request the right, not the wrong (Isa. 30:10) • Support speakers of truth, not reject them (Jer. 26:9-15) • Respect the word, not reject it (Jer. 36:23-24) • Go and do, not just say (Ezek. 33:30-33) • Keep open minds, not closed ears (Acts 7:57) • Prepare to hear all, not only what you want (Acts 10:33) • Seek truth, not tickled ears (2 Tim. 4:3-4)
Speak and We Will Hear It • One can be religious and not speak or hear God’s truth (Isa. 48:1; Hos. 4:1) • Model your speaking and hearing after God’s word, not after today’s preachers and audiences
