    Slide 2:2. The Task

    Imagine yourself as a zoologist. Because of your knowledge about animals and food webs you have been selected to design a new zoo. Your job is to create a zoo in which different types of animals can live together (just like in their natural habitats). Yet, this is a zoo and animals can be expensive. Animals that consume another animal can not be place together or else the zoo will go broke!     Obtain a copy of animal pictures from your teacher. Cut and organize the pictures on construction paper showing a food web. The web should show how animals eat one another beginning with the main source of energy-the sun. Write a description as to how the web begins and the animals are connected. Then using your knowledge obtain a zoo floor plan from your teacher to fill out so that the animals in your zoo can live together in harmony! Write a brief description as to how and why you have placed various animals together in each exhibit.        How will I be graded on my project? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Enrichment 1. Assume the role of one organism and write a description as to how you will get food, compete for food and avoid being eaten. 2. Design a tri-fold brochure to distribute to the public about your new innovative zoo concept. 3. Using graph paper show the area of your exhibits within the zoo. Be sure to include places such as bathrooms, snack bars, souvenir shops, etc. Differentiation 1. Illustrate your construction paper to show the habitat where your animals live.

    Inform students that they are only responsible for reading “green cards”. Cards are the individual slides that make up the PowerPoint presentation. You may want to break this lesson into a two day activity. Partner students together for the Student Activity and Assessment. Have the students write their own descriptions as to how the web begins and how the animals are connected. Have an area already organized with a copy of the animal pictures and construction paper. If necessary also include scissors, crayons and glue sticks. Make a copy of the Zoo Plan for students to complete. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
