  4. Answer the following questions. • 1. Give two examples of how working can contribute to emotional health. • Possible answers: Feelings of achievement, pride, and competence from supporting yourself. • Fulfillment and satisfaction from doing a job well and contributing to society.

  5. 2. What is the difference between a job and a career? • Job: A specific position with a particular employer. • Career: A series of related jobs in a particular field.

  6. 3. What aspects of lifestyle are impacted by career decisions? • How much you earn. • Where you live and work. • Your schedule and free time.

  7. 4. Does a clerk in the county courthouse work in the public sector or the private sector? • Public sector. • Explain. • The clerk works for a local government funded by tax dollars.

  8. 5. Compare full-time and part-time work. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? • Advantages of full-time work: Higher pay than part-time work. Greater possibility of receiving benefits. More chances for advancement. • Disadvantage of full-time work: Major commitment of time and energy.

  9. Advantage of part-time work: Small commitment of time and energy. • Disadvantages of part=time work: Less pay; usually no benefits.

  10. 6. What are some rewards of being an entrepreneur? What are some possible drawbacks? • Rewards: Being your own boss. Having the satisfaction of being in charge. Having the chance to make a lot of money. • Drawbacks: Risk of losing money if business fails. Time and effort needed to run a business.

  11. 7. What is the global economy? What are its implications for U.S. manufacturers? • How national economics are linked by trade. Some manufacturing jobs in the U.S, have been moved to manufacturers in the other countries, who make goods more cheaply.

  12. 8. Why do companies need to adapt constantly to changing technology? • Otherwise they will not be able to compete or succeed.

  13. 9. Explain the difference between an apprenticeship and an internship. • Apprenticeship: Combination of classroom instruction and paid work. • Internship: Short term work for little or no pay.

  14. 10. Give four examples of costs that you might incur if you go to college. • Costs: Tuition, books and supplies, room and board, transportation. • What kind of financial aid might be available to meet these costs?

  15. Financial aid: Grants based on need. Scholarships based on academic schievement6, athletic skills, or special talent. Loans that have to be repaid.

  16. 11. Why should you develop employability skills? • To help you fit into the workplace and be a valuable team player.

  17. Which of these skills can you practice while still in school? • Possible answers: Basic academic skills, thinking skills, interpersonal skills (communication, teamwork), technology skills, management skills.
