  1. Seven Laws of The Harvest December 26, 2004

  2. Introduction Our lives on earth are governed by certain laws of nature. Property of mutual attraction possessed by all bodies. Seven Laws of The Harvest • 7 mi/sec required to Escape earth’s gravity • Free falling at 32 ft/sec/sec • Orbiting planets Law of Gravitation We are governed physically and spiritually. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to the flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not loose heart.” (Ga. 6:7-9)

  3. Physical Laws Applied Spiritually “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has not root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” (Mt. 13:19-23) Critical elements: seed, soil, cultivation, weather and patience.

  4. Law #1 We harvest only what has been planted. What is planted? What is harvested? “…receive with meekness the implanted word...” (Jm. 1:21) “…which is able to save your souls.” “…if you are led by the Spirit…the works of the flesh are evident” (Ga. 5:17-21) “the works of the flesh are evident…But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering…” (Ga. 5:22) We sow to the flesh or Spirit - (Ga. 6:8) We reap corruption (flesh) or everlasting life (Spirit) – (Ga. 6:8) We will reap from what we sow. We plant good or bad seed and we harvest good or bad fruit.

  5. Law #2 We harvest the same kind as we plant. Good seed/thoughts sown in the heart will produce good actions/results. Good For Good and Evil For Evil. “Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.” (Mt. 7:17-18) “…for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to the flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” (Ga. 6:7-8) Peach Seed Peach Tree “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” (Mt. 7:20) – Walk the Walk

  6. Law #3 We harvest in a different season than we plant. We plant in the spring and harvest in the summer/fall. “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.” (Ga. 6:9) “So then neither he who plants is anything, nor is he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor.” (I Co. 3:8) “Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives early and latter rain.” (Jm. 5:7) In our instant society, we must be patient and never give up!

  7. Law #4 We harvest more than we plant. Good soil (hearts) will hold on and produce a great harvest. An example of God blessing generously a faithful person. “But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” (Mt. 13:23; Lk. 8:15) “Then Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous.” (Ge. 26:12-13) We need to plant good seed in good soil (heart), if we expect a good harvest. God will multiply our harvest based on our faithfulness. Beware of a negative harvest!

  8. Law #5 We harvest in proportion to what we plant. The amount of time, work and materials planted will be represented in the harvest. God makes it possible for us to do more. More growth comes from more activity. “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” (II Co. 9:6) “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” (II Co. 9:8) Every good work we plant will be rewarded by God. If we want to be more blessed, then we need to cheerfully plant more time, money and good works in God’s service.

  9. Law #6 We harvest the good only by perseverance and hard work. Weeds of negative attitudes and discouragement must be removed for good growth. We must cultivatedaily for a good harvest. “but exhort one another daily...” (Hb. 3:13) “…whatever things are true …noble…just…pure… lovely…good report …virtue …praiseworthy…meditate on these things.” (Ph. 4:8) “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all guile, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.” (I Pt. 2:1-2) A weed and feed approach takes hard work and endurance before we see good growth and results.

  10. Law #7 We can’t do anything about last years harvest. Learn from our mistakes. Don’t rest on past successes. “…concerning zeal, persecuting the church…I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.” (Ph. 3:6, 13) “And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink and be merry…You fool! This night your soul will be required of you...” (Lk. 12:19-20 ) We must learn from the past and not be consumed by self-pity worry, discouragement and pride. Look forward to the future harvest.

  11. The Seven Laws of The Harvest • Only what has been planted. • The same kind as we plant. • In a different season than we plant. • More than we plant. • In proportion to what we plant. • The good only by perseverance and hard work. • Not from a previous years harvest. We Harvest: “So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.” (I Co. 3:7) “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to the flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not loose heart.” (Ga. 6:7-9)
