Development, functional ability and lifestyle of Thomas • Progressive disease ( Cerebral Palsy) - it will possibly get worse • Learning difficulties – slow down development in school • Possibility of never being fully independent- always need aids and support e.g. walking aids and adaptations, compensatory approach. • Communication and swallowing problems – will need a referral to a speech and language therapist. • Eating – diet will need to be controlled. • Range of movement – Thomas’s play will be affected.
Thomas – if attending a special needs school the pro’s and con’s are: Pro – Support for the family, Less chance of being discriminated against, more specific help, teachers have more understanding of condition Con – isolation from children in mainstream schools.
