  5. The ordering process 1. NUIT site license at http://software.northwestern.edu • Site is NETID authenticated • Ordering from the site captures all relevant data for future research • Site allows for an order-placer and an order-approver • Approver must print, sign and fax form • Forms are kept on file for auditing requirement • We check funds, then activate specified NETID (for 6 days) or lend media

The ordering process • E-Academy site at https://elms.e-academy.com/northwestern/ • Site is netid authenticated • Products include Microsoft Office Work at Home, Intellisync, EndNote, Symantec AV, VPN, Eudora, iPassConnect • Products either require credit card payment or are free • The recommended site for student software

  7. The ordering process • Order from SHI directly using a p.o. • When Microsoft applications that aren’t on the top-5 list are needed or when cd purchase is desired

  8. What do I do if I want a summary of the software I purchased through NUIT? • Email: questions@software.northwestern.edu • In addition to product name, provide as many of the following as possible: • NETID of order placer or approver • CUFS number used • Date purchased

Microsoft Work at Home • Offer valid for Office suites only (Windows and Mac) • Qualifier: must provide proof of being a primary user of an identical Office suite and version number purchased through NUIT for an At-Work computer (provide NUIT order number) • May only be used for business purposes at home (no personal use)

Latest Releases • SPSS v. 12.0.1 for Windows • SAS 9.1.2 for Windows • Mathematica 5.01 Windows, Mac, Linux – single and bulk purchases (10 ea minimum of each platform) • Maple 9.5 Windows, Mac, Linux – single and bulk purchases (10 ea minimum of each platform) • Office X for Mac Professional

  13. Liability • Microsoft, and other vendors have extensive rules about purchase, distribution and record-keeping with regards to licensing • All of NU is bound by those rules and some liability is placed on users • Fines can be up to $100,000.00 per violation
