  15. Thread Package Thread is sold by length and is sold in a variety of types of packages to the thread type and its own use. 1. Spool: • Smallest Package • Flanged bobbin packages, once made by wood but now with plastic. • Largely used for domestic sewing. • Used to a small extent on slower industrial machines.

  16. • Parallel wound on to package. • Not suitable for delivery thread to high speed industrial machines. • Around all types of thread are wound as the spool except textured thread.

  17. Fig: Spool Thread Length: 100 to 500 m, relatively short length.

  18. 2. Cop: • Small, cylindrical, flangeless tubes on which thread is wound crosswise. • Not suitable to use in high speed industrial machines. • Widely used in fashionable garments manufacturing. • Around all threads are wound in this package except glazed thread and fine filament.

  20. 3. Cone: • This is angular hollow plastic tube on which thread is wound cross-wise. • Around all types of threads are generally wound and supplied with this package. • Give trouble free thread delivery at intermittent or continuous high speed. • Ideal thread package in garments industry. • Well suited to automatic machines.

  22. 4. Vicone: • Parallel tubes or low angled cones with an additional base in the form of a raised flange which may incorporate a small lip. • Contains polished or continuous filament thread. • Less possibility of thread wrapping with the package stand at loose condition due to lipped flange.

  24. 5. Large Package: • Used on over edge and cover stitch machine. • Used for spun or core spun threads wound on large cones or tubes.

  26. 6. Container: • Very large package. • Used to wound filament threads. • Used for that filament thread which are not controllable in normal thread packages. • Have an arrangement to apply lubricant on to the thread during unwinding.

  28. 7. Cocoon: • Self supporting, centerless thread packages. • Specially designed for insertion in the shuttle of multi-needle quilting machines and some types of embroidery machines.

  30. 8. Pre-wound Bobbin: • Precision wound thread packages can replace metal bobbin. • Bobbin changing time reduced. • Smoother unwinding. • Improve efficiency and quality of production. • A variety of thread type is available pre-wound. • A variety of sizes to fit most lock stitch machines.

  31. •These packages are self supporting and have no metal, wood or paper support. Fig: Pre-wound Bobbin
