  1. Sec 5: Solving complex linear Equations Homework: Pg23 #35-40, 57-59 and Pg30 #23-31 odds Learning Target: Students will solve complex linear equations and apply them to real-world problems (students can already solve multi-step equations as proven with the pre-test).

  2. ACT Question • A rectangular rug has an area of 80 square feet, and its width is exactly 2 feet shorter than its length. What is the length, in feet, of the rug? A. 8 B. 10 C. 16 D. 18 E. 36

  3. Ex 1: Solve for x 3x – 7(2x – 13) = 3(-2x + 9) X = 64/5 or 12.8

  4. Ex 2: Equations with multiple fractions!!!! *Hint – if you multiply everything by the least common denominator, you can get rid of the fractions! X = 72/43

  5. Ex 3: Absolute value equations STEPS • Get absolute value bars by themselves. • Make 2 equations with a positive right side and a negative right side. • Solve each equation. A. | 3x + 2 | = 7 5/3 and -3 B. 2 | 3x – 1 | + 5 = 33 13/3 and 5

  6. Ex 4: HUh? • Solve Every absolute value equation has 2 solutions unless x = ____ or the absolute value equals a ______________.

  7. Ex 4: using ratios • The lengths of the sides of a triangle are in the ratio of 3:4:5. The perimeter of the triangle is 18 inches. Find the lengths of the sides.

  8. homework • Pg23 #35-40, 57-59 • Pg30 #23-31 odds
