What is an optical illusion? An image that causes the mind deception or deceiving. Based on the Gestalt principles of perception (phi phenomenon, closure, proximity, similarity, figure and ground)
Phi phenomenon The illusion of movement from still images that change.
Closure The Gestalt Principle where the mind starts filling in missing information to make whole shapes
Proximity A Gestalt principle of perception stating that all else being equal, things that are near one another tend to be perceived as a unit.
Similarity The Gestalt principle that a group of similar objects forms an image.
Figure and Ground An aspect of perception in which objects are recognized apart from the background.
