Overview of the program • Intensive Program in Japanese for Science and Technology (IJST) • Kanazawa Institute of Technology • June 4th-July 13th, 2007 (6 weeks program) • You can take up to 12 credits • Program participants: RH, RIT, and UIUC UH (2006-)
Who is eligible to apply? • Students who have taken a year or more of Japanese by the time the program starts. • Thus, if you’re now taking JP111, you need to take two more Japanese courses (i.e., JP113)
Application • Deadline: Mid-January, 2007 • Passport (It usually takes 6 weeks to be issued. Plan ahead!) • You might need a visa if you are not an American citizen. Check: http://www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/english/html/travel_and_visa/visa/index.htm • Language test (2nd year Japanese students only)—Written test. It takes about an hour. • Registration form; Personal information form (These forms will be mailed to us soon)
Courses and credits • Four courses (12 credits): • Japanese Language & Communication • Japanese for Science & Technology • Japanese Culture • Special Project (Different each year) • Subdivided into 3 sections based on the result of your placement test
Credit transfer • You can transfer 12 credits for your 2 languages courses (8 credit-hrs) and 1 GL course (4 credit-hrs) • How to transfer: • If you have taken only first-yearJapanese, • Japanese 5 & 6 & GL (You need to take JP211 after you return from KIT) • Generic FL credits & GL • If you have taken second-year Japanese, • Japanese 7 & 8 (JP311 & JP312) & GL
Tuition • $1,500 which include tuition for 12 credits and apartment rent (food is not included). • Note: There is a HSS fund available which is for study-abroad students among other things. (How much money you’ll get really depends on the number of applicants)
