What are clouds? • Clouds are collections of tiny ice crystals or water droplets. • All air contains water vapor. When the air cools water vapor condenses. • This condensed water vapor collects on dust particles in the air to form clouds.
Why are clouds white? • Clouds reflect the light of the sun. • Light is made up of all the colors of the rainbow. • When all of these colors are reflected at once they appear to be white.
Why are some clouds gray? • When the clouds get really thick or high in the sky all of the colors of the rainbow can’t reflect off of the water droplets so it appears darker. • Shadows from other clouds can make them look darker.
Why do clouds form at different heights? The amount of water vapor in the air. The temperature of air at different heights. The wind and other air masses.
