June 30, 2014 Iowa Now 2.0 - Update
Introduction • Lin asked us to give you all a progress report/update. • Briefs/Buckets • Feature Stories • Initial Sketches • Q&A
Project Goals • Clarify mission of Iowa Now • Define content strategy • Better serve key audiences • Streamline processes • Rebuild website (and back-end systems)
Iowa Now Mission • Showcase content that best tells the university’s story • Connect with campus audiences and other constituents • Offer one-stop source for news of record • Power distribution channels like emails, feeds, social, etc.
Briefs/Buckets • Splitting Iowa Now content into two groupings: • Feature Stories • Briefs • The creation of “Briefs” will be shared between VPSC staff and our campus communications colleagues.
Briefs/Buckets (cont) • Briefs Categories: • Newsmakers • Achievements • Gifts and Grants • Publications • Events* • Internal Communications for Faculty and Staff • Internal Communications for Students
Briefs/Buckets (cont) • Why Briefs: • Not a lot of traffic for a significant amount of effort • Adding a taxonomy for departments that will allow data feeds for departmental web sites
Feature Stories • Fewer but more complex and impactful stories • Feature stories become their own mini-publications • Single Content Type • Photo Galleries and Videos will be part of the Feature Story content type • Expanding for additional story elements such as Twitter Cards, Interactive Graphics, more robust callouts and pull quotes
Next Steps • Very fast schedule • Design comps towards the end of July • Tech side: Already prototyping architecture changes and display frameworks
Conclusion • Questions or concerns? • Feedback as we move forward: Email works, or just grab one of us for a quick conversation.
