  1. YEAR 11 Careers Interviews, Advice and Information

  2. How Can We Help You? How can the Careers Service at Winchmore support you during Year 11 to enable you to make good choices about your Post 16 plans.

  3. How we can help • Interviews • All Year 11 students are entitled to a 40 minute one to one careers interview with our school Careers Adviser – Mrs Pearson • Appointment slips will be put in class folders every Monday for that week’s interviews. • Students who have interviews that week need to make a note of the day and time • Make sure you bring the slip on the day to have permission to be in the corridor

  4. How we can help -part 2 • Arrive promptly for the interview in the Careers Office. • If you are unable to make the appointment please let the Careers staff know beforehand and we can rearrange to appointment. • If you have an Assessment or test in class and you cannot leave the lesson your appointment will be rescheduled. • ALL students should have finished the homework set over the summer holiday to complete the Fast Tomato careers quiz. This is important as the information you give in this quiz will help focus the interview so that you can get the most out of your 40 minutes.

  5. Importance of a Plan B • What is a ‘Plan B’ • Why do you need one? • How do you organise a Plan B • What to consider when choosing a Plan B

Visits to colleges are important because • They give you an idea of whether you would like to study at that college • You can get further information on courses • You can see what opportunities you will have to engage with companies who operate in your field of study. • You can find out how practical it is to travel to the college from home • If you are supported by our Learning Support staff it is important you find out exactly what support the college can offer you and if the help on offer meets your needs.

  7. Apprenticeships • What is an apprenticeship • ‘It is a real job with real training meaning you can earn while you learn’ • What are the types of apprenticeships • Intermediate • Advanced • Higher • Degree • How can you research information about apprenticeships • (www.apprenticeships.gov.uk)
