Ofsted • Leaders work with impressive dedication, determination and vision. They have ensured that the high standards of education and experiences for pupils seen at the previous inspection have been sustained and extended to the new primary and sixth-form phases. • Leaders ensure that their expectations for consistently high-quality teaching are met. Pupils make outstanding progress because of the excellent teaching they receive. • Leaders plan a rich and varied curriculum that enables pupils to develop skills, and excel, in a broad selection of subjects. • Pupils feel safe in school because of leaders’ steadfast approach to safeguarding and a high level of pastoral care.
Starting in 2008 with a first cohort of 180 Year 7 students Wren Academy has grown each year to become one of the most successful schools in the country. The school has received three outstanding Ofsted reports and attained exceptional academic results with a 2018 Progress 8 score of +0.96 and an Attainment 8 of 62.02. Since it’s opening Wren Academy has developed to become an ‘all through school’ with the creation of a high performing Sixth Form in 2013 and the outstanding Primary Phase in 2015. • The workshop will first focus on the steps which have taken to ensure that the excellent outcomes achieved are sustainable in the future as the school develops into a Multi Academy Trust and prepares to open a new secondary school in the neighbouring borough of Enfield. There will then be a presentation of the plans in place to ensure that the school continues to excel and further improves the all-round education of all pupils. The workshop will outline practical strategies and measures which have contributed to the success of the school before examining the extent to which these can be transferred to diverse educational contexts.
Gavin has been teaching in London for over 20 years having started his career in Croydon where he worked in contrasting schools in the borough. During that time, he held positions as a pastoral leader and Head of Geography. Before joining Wren as Vice Principal in 2008 Gavin was an Assistant Headteacher at East Barnet School in Barnet. Gavin has been part of the leadership team at Wren since it first opened, taking a lead in developing the curriculum, assessment and reporting systems. Since becoming the Principal of Wren, GCSE and A Level examination results have continued to improve and the Sixth Form become oversubscribed. He is now focused on ensuring that the all through academy continues to develop successfully as well as aiming to start another new academy in Enfield for September 2020.
