Welcom 4-H leaders & volunteers! We will… • Set up individual Edmodo accounts for 4-H leaders/volunteers • Demonstrate features of the Edmodo program that can be used for project, club, or program business. • Learn how to locate , coach-to-mastery, and give feedback on RB assignments. • More information about Edmodo is available in the Edmodo manual
Setting up “Teacher” Accounts • Edmodo was created for schools • 4-H leaders/volunteers enroll as “teachers”; 4-Hers as “students” • Everyone belongs to “districts, groups” • This screencast is based on Snohomish County, WA, if you live elsewhere, you will want to work with your RB Administrator to retrieve the proper codes. • In the meantime, feel free to temporarily join the Snohomish County, WA “district” and use the codes for • RB Training: 4f8x52 • Permanent RB training: xy3j3i • The Edmodo program locks/changes these on a regular basis.
Setting up Teacher Accounts • Title is optional, but may help 4-Hers recognize you as a leader • Include First, Last name • The teacher-role REQUIRES an e-mail address • Enter your password ONCE (write it down)
Setting up Teacher Accounts You will be prompted to find your school district
Setting up Teacher Accounts You can personalize your profile with a 4-H appropriate clip-art or picture of yourself At the bottom of the page, leaders are invited to create a personal URL. There is no need to do this.
Setting up Teacher Accounts There is also no need to join learning communities.
If you want to use the group for RBing, please don’t create your own groups (just yet)…
Joining Groups When you first join you will be a “teacher” with read-only privileges. Interacting with youth on their RB assignments requires “co-teacher” privileges. The group’s owner (ideally, your RB Admin) can give you this “promotion.”
Record Booking The 4-H Record Book (RB) is completed through a series of assignments. Find them under the heartbeat at the top of your Edmodo screen. Scroll to the bottom of the assignments to complete the first: The“4-H Introduction.”
RB Assignments Assignments in the RB • 4-H Introduction • 3 SMART goals (required) • 9 optional SMART goals • Quarterly financial updates • Monthly quiz-updates
Coaching a SMART goal to mastery This young 4-Her wrote an appropriate 4-H goal that does not meet the SMART qualities. The leaders’ challenges is to help the her make it SMART.
Coaching a SMART goal to mastery You can lead 4-Hers to goals with SMART qualities through age/developmentally appropriate conversation and questions. This also contributes to a sense of belonging.
Coaching a SMART goal to mastery Depending on the age/developmental stage of the youth, you may ask them to put all the elements into a single, SMART goal. Or not.
Scoring/Evaluation Leaders may revise assignment scores after it is revised by the 4-Her. Moticons and badges are also motivating ways to provide feedback on RB assignments and other 4-H involvements.
SMART goals become Goal Stories …and goal stories lead to positive youth outcomes
RBing: Monthly Updates • Monthly quizzes remind 4-Hers of four things you should do each month: • Updating SMART goals • Changing goals • Updating financial records • Adding pictures or interacting with others on the wall • Find each month’s quiz on the wall by scrolling down.
