Two New Subcommittees • NEM transition subcommittee • Chaired by Dawn Phillips • Helped ease the transition from the SDM to colocating at SciTech Forum by providing information and additional reminders to TC • Procedures subcommittee • Chaired by Troy Mann • Updated handbook based on new calendar associated with colocating at SciTech 2014 • Goal to reissue handbook by June of 2014

Structures TC Membership • Structures TC Membership includes: • 33 Members • 35 if AIAA maximum • 5 International Members • 6 Associate Members • 44 officially recognized participants in the committee • Below AIAA requirement of 50 maximum • 59 Friends • We’ve culling list after repeated email bounces and/or lack of abstract review participation • 103 Total • The Structures TC uses the “Friend” category to introduce newcomers to the TC • Longstanding Members of the TC are returned to Friend status on an annual basis to make room for new Members

Application Statistics • Steering Subcommittee met earlier today to select New Members and Friends, whose terms will officially begin on 5/1/14 • 13 applications were reviewed by the steering committee • 5 were carried over from 2012 applications • 2 Members, who were long serving on the committee and great contributors, agreed to move to Friend status • Steve Engelstad • Dave Wieland • With 2 slots vacant, we could accept 4 new Members

Aerospace Design & Structures Group Announcements • Structures TC has been asked to provide the SciTech 2015 Student Papers Chair • Steve Russell and I have conferred and will appoint someone • Kathleen Atkins will approve • Nominations to be AD&S SDM Tech Chair at 2016 conference due to Kathleen Atkins by 1/31/14 • Kathleen Atkins term as AD&S Director ends 4/30/15 • Nomination approvals to run for this AIAA board position will be due to AIAA in August 2014 • Election in spring of 2015

Job opening, Stephen Clay Potential Job Opening: Composite Structures Research Engineer Citizenship Requirement: U.S. Citizen Hiring Organization: Air Force Research Laboratory Aerospace Systems Directorate Wright Patterson AFB, OH Term: Permanent, full-time civil service Job Description: Lead the development of new composite structural concepts and structural mechanics analysis methods to enable the certification of lighter weight, lower cost airframes. Perform program management of contracted and university efforts and conducts in-house, hands-on research projects including fabrication, testing, and analysis of composite structures. Ensure that the program technical and financial deliverables are identified, submitted according to schedule, and utilized to accurately predict and assess technical, financial, and schedule risks. Plan and conduct program reviews, oral presentations, and written reports for AFRL leadership, other program stakeholders, and the technical community. Highly Desired Skills: In-depth understanding of failure criteria and damage mechanics as applied to primary load bearing composite structure. Broad understanding of composite materials, including material characteristics and manufacturing processes. Mandatory Minimum Qualifications: M.S. in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or related engineering discipline with an emphasis in composite structures or B.S. in engineering with at least 5 years of experience in composite industry.
