Economic Development Impact • Since 2006, over $4 billion in investment by the recycling industry in SC with over 6,000 jobs • 2013 - 500 recycling businesses with 21,000 jobs
Recycling Industry Demand: PAPER • 2800 tons per day of paper is consumed between 4 paper mills in SC. • Of the 2800 tons consumed by SC paper mills, 90% is generated in NC and SC. • 10 years ago these mills were pulling material in from NYC and Miami, FL. • ANNUAL DEMAND: 952,000 tons Paper Mills

Recycling Industry Demand: GLASS • 575 tons a day from the Carolinas • 17,000 tons a month glass – post consumer and post industrial • ANNUAL DEMAND: 210,000 tons Glass Processors
Lost Opportunity • 348,000 tons of recyclable MSW materials were buried • $12.5 million in wasted disposal fees by municipalities • $47 Million in lost revenue for local government • Total net loss over 3 years is $216,500,000 – just shy of a quarter billion dollars
