What it Means to be a Gael Connor Cuccinelli
Why I chose to come to Saint Mary High School Saint Mary High School was always a place that I wanted to attend. All of my older brothers and sisters have graduated from here. I chose Saint Mary for various reasons. The main attraction of Saint Mary is that it is a “Small, Personal, Catholic Choice.” This slogan for Saint Mary, itself, shows how this school is not just a place where you come to attain knowledge, but rather a second home. Somewhere that you can turn to and trust that the doors will always be open. Every teacher and staff member are always willing to hear your thoughts and opinions. They are willing to help and make you feel welcomed. Saint Mary’s size is also a quality in which I enjoy very much. Every class I take is small and allows the teacher to teach me as an individual. This school also has great athletics where I can play more than one sport. To be able to play football, basketball and run track allows me to be diverse. Saint Mary High School was a school I chose and wanted to attend. This high school, or second home, is MY “Small, Personal, Catholic Choice”
My Favorite Event at Saint Mary • There are many events that Saint Mary’s holds that I enjoy greatly. The ones which I think are my favorite are all of the sporting events. They are opportunities for the entire school to get together to watch the athletes do what they do best. These events allow both the fans and players to become active in the school. The games being played are also a great source of entertainment as well as a challenge for both the players and coaches! Sporting events, also reinforce the goals in which Saint Mary encourages in a student, hard work, discipline and respect for others.
My Best Memory at Saint Mary • The memories I have at Saint Mary are unforgettable. The moments of every day here make memories that will last forever. My most profound memory was probably the State Final football game on December 3,2010. It was a time filled with excitement and adrenaline in which I could challenge myself against the opponent. It was my last football game of my sophomore year and my last game I would play with the graduating seniors. It was a day that I knew I would regret if I did not make the most of it. I worked my hardest and did my best. Even though my team fell short of a win, we still did our best. It was a day I will never forget, and even though we lost, I know the memory of that day will last forever. “Memory is a way of holding on the things you love, the things you are, and the things you never want to lose.”
My Gael Friends Friends are an important part of your high school years. They help you through the good and bad times and are always there for you. I have met people who are totally different than me, which has enriched my experience at Saint Mary. My Gael friends get me through every single school day. All my Gael friends make the school day fun and entertaining. They make me want to come to school every day. Without them, I would not love the school as much as I do .
What college do you want to go to and why? • I would like to keep my options open but one college I would like to attend is Villanova University. It is the college I dreamed of going to since the day I first stepped on it’s campus. Villanova offers a wide variety of areas to study. It also has a great reputation and tradition of successful students. I would like to play either football or basketball at Villanova. I know that playing a sport would just add to the experience of being a Nova student. Villanova University is my dream college and with hard work I know that I will be able to attend.
What I Have Learned… • In the two short years I have been attending Saint Mary High School, I have learned so much. Not only have I learned about school work but also how to be a better person. This school has helped me build character and become a stronger individual. To know the difference between right and wrong, and how to be a leader not a follower. Saint Mary has helped me understand who I am, what I want to be, and what I need to accomplish to reach my goals.

Make the Difference • One thing which I admire about all Gaels of Saint Mary is how we always put our best foot forward to make a difference. In all situations, it seems like this high school is always willing to help others and put them before ourselves. Saint Mary has participated in numerous events such as walks and fundraisers to help people in need. It shows much of the character of a Saint Mary Gael student and I appreciate it very much. Saint Mary High School makes a difference, one student at a time.
