  4. What did we do? • Created a science curriculum that includes language instruction and provides science background knowledge • Currently teaching the course (adapting curriculum as needed) • Invite SMC students to observe and participate in the classroom

  5. Results • A new science course was created at BHS • SMC students participating in teaching content to ELLs

  6. What we Learned • Better understanding of importance of background knowledge • How do I incorporate differentiated learning to a diverse set of students? • Disappearing water concept

  7. Next Steps • Is this a sustainable class from year to year? • Student ability dependent • How can current BHS science teachers be aware of ELL needs?
