OSI Network update. As of September 2003 (and the best of my knowledge). Russia. Closed since January 2003 Successful spin-off of health program: Open Health Institute Some OSI funding; a lot of external funding, especially DfID, and intense fundraising underway.

  3. CEE8 EU Accession Countries (Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia) • Transformed/restructured • Some grantmakers with funding from other sources • Some hybrids – policy institutes, implementers • Re: OSI funds – now treated as a group

  4. BalkansAlbania, Bulgaria, Romania, former Yugo (Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia & Montenegro, NOT Slovenia) • No immediate change • Gradual scaledown of funding • Expectation – process similar to CEE

  5. Africa • South Africa NF • Southern Africa regional foundation • West Africa regional foundation • Possible health programs in the future

  6. Asia • Burma – from Thailand, NY • Indonesia NF • China? • Baby steps in health – PH training for Burmese

  7. Latin AmericaGuatemala, Haiti, Mexico, Peru • Guatemala, Haiti NFs • Mexico, Peru from Washington • Police and judicial reform • No health now or in future

  10. NISCentral Asia, Caucuses, Moldova, Ukraine • Restated commitment to these 10 countries – take advantage of it! • Network strategy in effect through 2005 – start thinking about what you/we will do after that
