One of the challenges of the European Maritime Cluster Indaba was to seek a proper definition of clusters as highlighted by the respective country participants. • The Indaba decided that a formal network of Maritime Cluster Organizations should be set up to also co-ordinate the Maritime Cluster discussions in the whole of Europe • As a result of the above the new European network of Maritime Clusters was established
CLUSTERING IN THE MARITIME SECTOR WITH REFERENCE TO AFRICAN PORTS
We grow and strengthen the Maritime clustering from within South Africa first. • We extend the South African Maritime Clustering success to SADEC • When SADC Maritime Clustering is in place, we there after incorporate or engage PMEASA • Contd….
Port Management Association of East and Southern Africa (PMAESA) will naturally engage and offer two associations, namely North African Ports Association (NAPA) and West and Central Africa (WCA) • It is therefore our view that when all the above is established we are able to engage African Union (AU) on all Maritime related matters. • Through AU there are numerous benefits going forward, including having one voice on engaging super countries, like BRIC, Europe and the East etc.
