Phoenix Phoenix Integration Enterprise Support for Managing STK Scenarios Scott Woyak, Phoenix Integration Ryan Frederic, Applied Defense
Agenda • Background: STK/Analyzer • Supporting multi-user deployment of STK scenarios • Solution overview: CenterLink • Demonstration • Q&A
STK/Analyzer • Automate trade studies in STK without scripting Input Values (e.g. sensor parameters) STK Connect Output Values (e.g. coverage parameters) STK/Analyzer
Manual Trade Study Process Build a Scenario 1 Change parameters via Properties Dialogs 2 Run reports, extract information, plot in Excel 3 • Time consuming • Error prone • Tedious • Relies heavily on experts
Manual Trade Study Process • Writing MATLAB scripts to perform trade studies • Requires programming experience • Is error prone • Debug process is time consuming
How STK/Analyzer Works STK/Analyzer builds a parametric representation of the scenario. Any parameter in the tree can be used in a trade study by dragging it to the form on the right.
Managing STK Usage Needs: • Version control of scenarios • Collaboration of multiple users editing a single scenario • Utilization of available cluster resources to accelerate STK/Analyzer runs • Archival of scenarios in a central, web-accessible database • Utilization of STK scenarios by non-expert users Needs Vary: • Individual • Workgroup • Enterprise
CenterLinkTM Version Controlled Repository Web Access Central Server: CenterLink Cluster Resources
CenterLink Usage Model • Analysts jointly work on developing one or more scenarios. • Scenarios are stored in a version controlled database. • As studies are performed, they may be sent out to cluster resources to accelerate trades. • Results are archived in a web-accessible database. • Customized GUIs may be created for scenarios that allow non-expert (or potentially future) people to repeat scenario calculations.
Performance Measures Satellite Grazing Altitude Grazing Angle Angle to Sun Range Duration of access with “black” background Airborne Platform Range Elevation angle Grazing altitude Angle to sun System Inputs Satellite Blackouts due to scheduling conflicts Airborne Platform Track to fly Altitude Take Off Time Speed to fly Missile Launch Time Example: Airborne Laser Missile Defense
Scenario Development Log into a CenterLink server and specify a location to store a scenario. Version control scenarios directly from STK
SOFTWARE INTEGRATIONBoeing uses Phoenix-Integration tools to link engineers from 3 separate locations and share access to models, cutting process time from 8 hours to 45 minutes PRODUCT OPTIMIZATIONFord Motor Company automated the crash simulation process to improve the safety of their cars. Head injury criteria was reduced by 24%, chest injury was reduced by 16% and overall compute time was reduced from 7 hours to 25 minutes. DATA MANAGEMENTManagers at GE reduced their design cycle times by 85% for a gas turbine power generator. GE uses Phoenix software to perform complex Six Sigma tasks.
