  2. Introduction • The Iditarod is a dog sled race in Alaska. The race begins in Anchorage Alaska and it ends in Nome Alaska. The first Iditarod to Nome started on March 3, 1973. The Iditarod race started when people in Nome Alaska became ill. They did not have medicine so some of the people in Anchorage traveled to Nome and delivered the medication. That is how the Iditarod race began.

  3. Musher • My musher is Yvonne Dabakk. Her bin number is 8. She is 31 and lives in Oslo, Norway. She is married to Kenneth Dabakk.

  4. Dogs • Yvonne started with 16 dogs. Two types of dogs that people raced with are Alaska Malamute and the Siberian Husky.

  5. Routes and checkpoints • The are 26 northern routes, some of them are Anchorage where they start, Cambell Airstrip, Wollow, Yentna Station, Skwentne, Finger Lake Rainy Pass, Rohn, Nikolai, Mcgrath, Takotna, Ophir, Cripple, Ruby, Galena, Nulto, Kaltag, Unalalakleet, Shalktoolik, Koyuk, Elim, White Mountain, Safety, and Nome

  6. Awards • This is a new award this year ,given to the team that reached Galena first. It was award to Aliy Zirkle. Presented to the Iditarod winner. This years winner is Beatle, Dallas Seavey’s lead dog . Presented to the last mushern to finish the race. This years winner is:Marcelle Fressineau
