Robotic Vehicle Sanding Work Cell Development UA10-RRAD Project Team Principal Investigator Earnest W. Fant, Ph.D., P.E. Co-Principal Investigator Nebil Buyurgan, Ph.D. Graduate Assistants Matthew Chenoweth, Mark Center Project Motivation To identify productivity improvement opportunities in before final touchup painting occurs. Eliminate laborious activity for humans and possible bodily injury Project Objective • Development of economic feasibility analysis, and • Development of technically practical review for selected vehicle • Project Activities • Survey to identify sanding applications • Tentative selection of typical sanding application • Define by sanding application its specification characteristics • Detailed economic analysis and technical reviews. • Research Methodology • Document the present sanding operation on vehicles before final touchup painting • Determine where in the work cell vehicle and robotic arm(s) should be located • Determine type of sanding equipment to be used and attached to robotic arm • Determine cleanup and collection of paint removed dust in work cell • Develop a graphically movie of work cell to illustrate how a sanding robotic work cell could operate UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS – INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING
