  1. Film Treatment – Institutions

  2. Research • I researched popular film institutions and used this research to narrow my search to the most suitable institution for our film. From my research I found out that Walt Disney Pictures wouldn’t be suitable due to them only producing musical films for example Mary Poppins, also Pixar Animation Studios wouldn’t be suitable due to only producing animated films for example Finding Nemo, and Marvel Studios wouldn’t be suitable due to them producing superhero films for example Iron Man. These productions are all American based as well which isn’t suitable for my film due to it being a British film involving everyday British culture and the social realism of Britain’s society. I researched into similar low budget, social realism films for example Ill Manors, Shifty, This Is England. Ill Manors used the production companies Film London Microwave and BBC Films, Shifty used the production companies Between The Eyes and Film London Microwave and This Is England used the production companies Film4 and Warp Films. Using this information I come to a conclusion that the institutions that would be suitable for our film would be Film London Microwave and Warp Films due to using a low budget for production and having experience in working with social realism films.

  3. Film London • Film London was founded in 2003 and is the capitals film and media agency. Film London Microwave is a scheme which was put in place for low budget films. Film London is 1 of the 9 regional screen agencies in the UK, and was set up by the UKFC - set up in 2000by Labour Government to develop and promote the UK film industry. Film London is supported by the BFI and the Mayor of London and receives support from Arts Council England London and Skillset. • We could use Film London due to the fact that they look at producing low budget films – something that would be of an interest to our group.

  4. Warp Films • Warp Films was founded in 2001 and is an independent film company based in Sheffield and London UK. They have a further company, Warp Films Australia, based in Melbourne, Australia. It was established by Warps Records by partners Rob Mitchell and Steve Beckett. It produces a number of short films. • The reason we could look at using Warp Films is because they specialise in short films which is something we are looking at doing.
