Visits, inspections and reports from the LSA that relates to QA • MRS rules relate to the process by which the NMC gains assurance from the LSA that they are meeting our standards (Rules 11, 12 and 13) • We do this through: • Receiving an annual report from the LSA • Undertaking reviews of the LSA • Quarterly quality monitoring reports • Undertaking extraordinary reviews if required
New midwives rules and standards, published January 2013 • Focus on protecting the public • Avoids duplication with the code and other NMC standards • Are specific to midwifery practice • Aligned with principles of good regulation • Produce measurable outcomes
Standards update Midwives Rules and Standards • Have been in force for one year Standards for Supervisors of Midwives • Standards for supervisors of midwives to replace the current PoSoM standards will be published soon Standards for Pre registration midwifery education • We have committed to evaluate our pre registration standards as part of our formal response to Francis
Revalidation Three options presented for phase 1- within current legislation Council considered options in September 2013 Option 3 - clear steer by stakeholders as preferred option based on benefits Self Confirmation from the individual registrant which is informed by third party input and based on enhanced Code and standards. NMC to perform audit and triangulation.
