  2. AARP supports developing opportunities for older Americans to pursue entrepreneurship as a means to generate income, boost financial security, and assist others in meeting needs.

  3. April 2013 is National Encore Entrepreneur Mentor Month, an opportunity for SBA and its partners to leverage AARP’s network to introduce existing and future encore entrepreneurs to existing resources. It’s also an opportunity for AARP to expose interested members to SBA’s resources available to help them in starting and growing a business.

  4. AARP and SBA are working jointly to link 100,000 Americans over age 50 with small business development resources, including live workshops, conferences, and mentoring programs to give them the support they need to start or grow a business.

  5. Boomers start businesses. Older entrepreneurs are having success. More Boomers envision becoming an entrepreneur.

  6. About7.4 million Americansover the age of 50 work for themselves.

  7. 1 in 4 Americans between ages 44 and 70 are interested in starting their own business or nonprofit within the next five to 10 years.

  8. Throughout this Mentor Month, AARP State Offices, SBA District Offices and SBA Resource Partners will host more than 150 events around the country.  Events include: • Speed Mentoring • Mentor Lunches
