  1. A Green Integrated MRT System in Singapore for the Future Innovation is a hallmark of Singapore. It’s become a benchmark for modern urban development. As a city-state, Singapore is the first country to earn the “smart nation” title. Singapore is also one of the world’s top three smart cities. Innovation and sustainable infrastructure development go hand-in-hand, and the Singapore government knows it. That’s why the government introduced the Green Plan 2030. Since the public transport infrastructure will account for the vast majority of infrastructure industry value in Singapore, both the rail operators and the government are working together to create a green integrated mass rapid transit (MRT) system in the country. Here’s how. •The Green Plan 2030 also aims to phase out all internal combustion engine vehicles and have all vehicles run on clean energy by 2040. •Singapore is already home to a comprehensive, 440 km-long network of cycling paths. This number is set to triple by 2030, making it even easier to commute to work. •Plans to enhance the infrastructure for more electric buses, taxis, and cars are already underway. By 2040, all public buses and taxis in Singapore will run on cleaner energy. •Singapore will increase the train network from 230km today to 360km by 2030. This will bring 8 in 10 homes within a 10-minute walk from a train station. Over the next decade, new lines such as the Thomson-East Coast Line, Jurong Region Line, and Cross Island Line will be added to the network, and extensions are in the works for the North East Line and Downtown Line. •With Land Transport Authority’s support, SMRT Corporation, a leading rail operator in Singapore, increased its fleet of electric buses to 17, along with the addition of 11 Linkker buses in August 2021. These buses are charged with fast overhead pantograph chargers at SMRT interchanges. Commenting on the same, SMRT Chairman, Seah Moon Ming, said: “Through a strong partnership, sincere engagement, and efficient planning, we will continue to renew and re-engineer our railway infrastructure, train systems, and operations to achieve sustainable, operational and service excellence.” •The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is working with industry partners to build a high-powered electric vehicle charging network for high-mileage drivers like taxis, commercial fleets, and heavy goods vehicles. LTA has plans to deploy about 60,000 charging points by the end of the decade. Conclusion From cleaner vehicles on the road to an expanded rail network, Singapore is firmly on track to a more sustainable transport system. Taking green modes of transport isn’t just great for the

  2. environment—it can save you money and make you healthier while creating a sustainable community for the future.
