  1. Singaporeans to Get 400 New Electric Buses from December 2024 Singaporeans to Get 400 New Electric Buses from December 2024 Singapore has long been a pioneer in public transportation, consistently seeking ways to improve its services for its citizens. In line with this, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced that Singapore will receive 400 new electric buses from December 2024. This move towards cleaner public transportation is a step in the right direction towards Singapore's goal of becoming a sustainable city. Let’s check out the benefits of electric buses, the LTA's plans for the new fleet, and how it will impact the lives of Singaporeans. Benefits of Electric Buses The new electric buses are expected to provide several benefits to Singaporeans. First, electric buses emit less harmful pollutants, which will help improve air quality. This will be particularly beneficial for Singapore, which has consistently struggled with air pollution due to its high population density. Additionally, electric buses are quieter than traditional diesel buses, which will help reduce noise pollution. The LTA's Plans The LTA has stated that the new fleet of electric buses will be deployed across the island, with a focus on areas with high demand. This includes residential estates, industrial estates, and commercial areas. The new buses will be equipped with air conditioning, charging ports for passengers, and Wi-Fi. The LTA also plans to implement a dynamic charging system that will allow the buses to be charged at their endpoints, allowing for longer routes. With LTA’s support, SMRT Corporation, a leading multi-modal transport operator in Singapore, increased its fleet of electric buses to 17, along with the addition of 11 Linkker buses in August 2021. These buses are charged with fast overhead pantograph chargers at our interchanges. SMRT Chairman, Seah Moon Ming, said: “Along with other eco-friendly initiatives, this has helped us achieve the Eco Office Plus Certification by Singapore Environmental Council for Kranji and Woodlands bus depots as part of the GreenDNA Certification process.” SMRT Chairman further added: “The certification is recognised by the United Nations Environment Programme. We also supported LTA to attain the GoldPLUS rating from the Building and Construction Authority Green Mark Award for WITH.” On the other hand, SMRT CEO, Ngien Hoon Ping said: “We will continue to integrate environmental, social, and governance considerations into our bus operations.” Impact on Singaporeans The new electric buses will have a significant impact on the lives of Singaporeans. With air conditioning and charging ports, passengers will be able to enjoy a more comfortable ride. Additionally, the quieter buses will help reduce noise pollution, making the ride more peaceful. Finally, the reduced emissions from the electric buses will improve air quality, which will be particularly beneficial for those with respiratory issues.

  2. Conclusion Overall, the announcement of 400 new electric buses in Singapore is an exciting development for the city. With a focus on sustainability and a commitment to improving public transportation, Singapore continues to set an example for cities around the world. The new buses are expected to provide numerous benefits for Singaporeans, including improved air quality, reduced noise pollution, and a more comfortable ride. The LTA's plans for the new fleet are impressive, and it will be interesting to see how the dynamic charging system performs.
