  3. Amata municipality in figures • Amata is located in Vidzeme region, 60-80 km from Rīga in east-west direction. There is the highway Rīga -Pskov and railroad passing throughthe Amata. • The total area - 745,51 km2 (74551 ha) • Population ~ 6370 • 1 July 2009 Amata municipality merged by 5 rural municipalities - Amata, Drabeši, Nītaure, Skujene and Zaube.

Agriculture and rural environment • Land available for agriculture - 21961 ha • 410 farms • 46 biological farms • Traditional agriculture branches – dairy cattle-breeding, beef cattle breeding and production, beekeeping • Unconventional agriculture branches – pedigree rabbits, fish nursery, breeding of lamas and camels etc.

  8. Forestry • Forests occupy up to 60% of county’s area (44731 ha) • More than 30000 ha belong to private owners

Education • 12 education institutions : • Amata elementary school with branch in Ieriki (102) • Drabeši preschool (112) • Spāre special school (116) • Drabeši boarding elementary school (125) • Kindergartens: “Kastanītis” (106) • “Taurīte” (30) • Nītaure secondary school (122) • Sērmūkši elementary school with preschool group (77) • Zaube elementary school with preschool group (83) • Nītaure music and art school (69) • There are ~ 970 school age children in territory of county, including 333 pupils who attend schools in city of Cēsis • Amata elementary school - Ecoschool with intensified environmental education
